HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. -- A teenager was shot near the Clackamas Town Center on Sunday, leaving him hospitalized, and the gunman was still at large Monday, according to Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
Detective Jim Strovink said the shooting may be gang related.
The 16-year-old, a Hispanic male according to Detective Jim Strovink, was expected to survive but remained in care at OHSU.
Gunshots were reported on the corner of SE 85th Ave. and Monterey in Happy Valley around 6 p.m. on Sunday; according to sheriff’s deputies, a man fired several shots at the teen and then ran away.
The 16-year-old ran to the nearby Monterey Springs apartment complex before calling police for help.
Several bystanders witnessed the shooting.
One witness told deputies the suspect had a gun under his sweatshirt and was scanning the crowd, looking from side to side.
The suspect was believed to have run through alleys behind several strip malls headed toward SE 82nd Ave.
Witnesses claimed he boarded a TriMet bus, prompting Oregon State Police to stop a bus near 82nd and SE Flavel, but no one matching the suspect’s description was found, according to Strovink.
Investigators described the suspect as a dark-skinned Hispanic male, about 5’8” tall with a thin build and moustache.
He may be armed and dangerous, Strovink said.
