Young Vancouver boy pleads for help from mother's car in 9-1-1 call
06:46 PM PDT on Monday, October 22, 2007
VANCOUVER, Wash. – A Vancouver woman who allegedly bit her son while driving drunk appeared in court Monday afternoon.
Paulette Lynn Spears pleaded innocent to charges of DUI, reckless endangerment and assault. The judge set bail at $10,000.
Spears was arrested Saturday night after her 8-year-old son called 911 to report she was acting irrationally, said Sgt. Tim Beiber with the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
Spears apparently tried to take the phone away from the boy as he called, and eventually bit his hand to get him to release the phone, Beiber said. The woman then hung up on dispatchers

Her five-year-old daughter was in the back of the car.
In 911 tapes released Monday, the boy's panic is audible as he describes the situation to dispatchers and attempts to provide an approximate location.
Other drivers had also called 911 to report an erratic driver crossing the yellow line.
About 10 p.m., Spears pulled into a fire station on 134th Street in Salmon Creek. Deputies soon arrived and determined she was drunk. They asked her to perform a sobriety test but she refused, according to Beiber.
They arrested and booked Spears.
Family members picked up the children.
