Rabbits seized from Hillsboro home recovering
05:23 PM PDT on Thursday, October 19, 2006
Days after more than 100 rabbits were seized from a Hillsboro woman's home the animals are making a steady recovery.
There are 148 rabbits all in their own cages at a makeshift care facility.
When they arrived most of the animals showed signed of dehydration and malnourishment. Dozens were also found dead at the home. Now the survivors are bouncing back.
”It was really fun when we got this set up Tuesday as soon as we put down the hay and the water in, the bunnies were eating and drinking constantly for 10 - 15 minutes straight,” Mark Wells of the Oregon Humane Society said.
Eight of the rabbits are being cared for by a vet at a second location.
The Humane Society said it will be weeks before the animals will be available for adoption. But they are accepting donations for their care.
If you'd like to help, contact the Hillsboro Police Department.
