Kulongoski's 'walk-off' sparks much discussion, mixed opinions

Wednesday had marked the third day in a row that Governor Ted Kulongoski was unavailable to answer questions about the ethics complaint.

Kulongoski had been described as "too busy" with a continuing terror drill to address questions about the Neil Goldschmidt crime.

According to at least one Portland political analyst, Kulongoski was wise to walk off an interview platform Tuesday after being asked a question about the complaint.

"It’s not something one answers at a news conference. It’s a legal matter that is probably discussed best privately, with counsel,” said Dr. Robert Eisinger with Lewis and Clark College.

Kulongoski's walk-off sparked a maelstrom of mixed opionion and quickly became the talk of the town.

Jack Bogdanski, an attorney and law professor known for his popular Jack Bog's Blog, wrote a recent entry about the walk-off and concluded that Kulongoski embarassed himself by refusing to answer the question.

Portland radio talk show host Lars Larson has repeatedly referenced the walk-off and other radio stations also aired the audio of the incident.

On Monday, Larson sent the complaint letter to the Oregon Bar requesting an investigation into whether Kulongoski lied about knowledge of Goldschmidt’s conduct and, if so, whether his law license should be revoked.

That day, a spokeswoman for Kulongoski told KGW the governor could not comment since he was focusing on "more serious issues than a complaint from a talk show host."
