Ozzy Osbourne makes a surprise stop in Portland
02:30 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 16, 2007
The Prince of Darkness blew with the rain to the Rose City Tuesday morning with Ozzy Osbourne making a surprise stop on his way to kick off Ozzfest 2008.
Superstar, Black Sabbath legend and star of the Osbournes was promoting the tour through radio station KUFO on the Marconi Show.
Ozzfest is in Seattle Thursday night, and Ozzy returns to Portland on November 14 to play the Rose Garden with Rob Zombie.
He said he had been telling his wife Sharon that after so many years, he felt it was time to play arenas rather than the outdoor Ozzfest.
“But you got to be careful what you wish for,” he said.
Ozzy discussed the latest 40-date tour, life on the road and his quite-public family life. The Osbournes MTV reality show hit some raw moments, dealing with his kids and eventually Sharon’s battle with colon cancer.
But he said he’d do it again.
“It’s happened, I don’t regret it, it’s 100 percent reality.”
He seemed a bit surprised that after nearly 40 years of playing music, "I don't wanna stop," the latest single on the album "Black Rain" was No.1 on the charts -- his first ever.
”Wow, that’s it, I’m going to go on vacation now. Now my wife can afford three seats on the airplane -- one for the dogs.”
Ozzy did seem upset about a current auction at the famed Sotheby’s featuring a wide array of items from the Osbourne estate, complaining that he didn’t want to lose his beloved pool table.
“It’s a family heirloom!”
The family has since moved out of the mansion featured in the reality show. But with 27 moves over the past 25 years, in addition to constant touring, shedding some stuff may make it easier to settle down.
“I just want to go home,” he joked.
When asked about the possibility of recording with Black Sabbath members again, Ozzy said he’d be open to the idea -- but only if it could be as good as it used to be.
“I’ve tried and I’m willing to do it, but only if it’s up to the standards when I left. I’d want people to go ‘wow.’”
