Baby tested for meth after Canby apartment raid
05:37 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 16, 2007
CANBY, Ore. -- A baby seized during a methamphetamine raid Friday was taken into state custody and tested for the presence of drugs, as police arrested five others -- including the child’s mother.
Canby Police served a warrant at the apartment on SE 2nd Avenue where they said they found evidence of meth cooking and drug dealing.
Detectives said the four suspects, the baby boy's 17-year-old mother and the child all lived at the home.

According to police, in the bedroom there were two mattresses on the floor, no crib and a meth pipe was found next to a breast pump and other baby items.
Police said they also found evidence of a meth lab and sales of the drug.
"This is what I call an officer's worst nightmare," Canby Police Officer Chris Mead said. "As far as the thing you don't want to deal with in law enforcement."
"It doesn't make me proud to live in this neighborhood that is for sure," a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous remarked.
State officials took the three-month-old baby into custody and planned to test for drugs. The boy's hair will be tested for exposure to methamphetamines. Test results are expected by the end of the week.
Alejandro Mares-Vargas, 39, 33-year-old Daisy Rae Ann Gonzalez, and 24-year-old Miguel Angel Guiterrez-Perez were charged with possessing, making and selling drugs along with child neglect. Miguel Ortiz-Navarro, 20, was arrested for drug possession and immigration violations.
The child’s mother was arrested and charged with possessing, making and selling drugs, child neglect and endangering a minor.
According to the Oregon Department of Human Services, 61 percent of the state's 7,700 foster children are removed from homes where drugs are present. Methamphetamine is found in three-fourths of those homes.
