Statement on Lake Oswego student's death
06:38 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 14, 2008
Statement from Lake Oswego School District Dear LOSD Parents, A tragic accident occurred on the Palisades Elementary playground during lunch recess today. A fifth-grade boy was seriously injured during a game of flag football. The student was struck in the throat by a ball and collapsed, unable to breathe. His fellow students alerted a supervising teacher, who sent for help while she tried to assist the student , and paramedics were called. The student was transported by ambulance to Meridian Park Hospital. His mother was with him. Tragically, we learned this afternoon that the student died at the hospital. Palisades parents were notified of the accident this afternoon, and plans are in place to provide counseling support for students and staff tomorrow. This was a tragic and traumatic accident, and our thoughts and support are with the family and the Palisades community. Nancy Duin Communications Director Lake Oswego School DistrictMore Headlines...
