MOLLALA, Or. -- A blind Molalla man accused of causing a five-hour standoff with police will face a judge Monday.
Police said 47-year-old Cole Chancellor fired a gun and barricaded himself inside a home at 15771 S Highway 211 around 1 p.m. Sunday.
S.W.A.T. officers were called in and they deployed tear gas into the house after hours of negotiations failed to pursuade Chancellor to come out. After the tear gas was released, Chancellor surrendered and walked out of the home unarmed with his hands above his head, police said.
"The man's blind. I don't think he's 'kooky,' he's a nice guy," Raechele Woosley, a neighbor of Chancellor's told Newschannel 8.
Investigators said Chancellor may have been drunk but he does have a criminal history.
He was taken to the Clackamas County Jail and will likely be arraigned on Monday on several charges, including unlawful use of a firearm, reckless endangerment and menacing.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Chancellor has been arrested 14 times in the county for a number of charges including burglary, disorderly conduct and violation of a restraining order.
