Police said the family's Subaru crashed into an empty van on the side of the highway.
The wreck happened just after 5 a.m. near the 185th exit.
Detective Pam Yazzolino with the Beaverton Police Department said a Subaru with a mother, father, and two young children inside slammed into an empty van on the side of the highway.
It was originally reported that the mother, 33-year-old Maria Vasquez-Raya, had a serious head injury but survived. However, Beaverton police later said Vasquez-Raya died at the hospital.
Yazzolino said the father, 31-year-old Salvador Barajas-Negrete, and the two children, ages five and two, were all taken to the hospital but were stable.
The father was the driving the family's car at the time of the wreck.
There was no word on a cause but police don’t think speed or alcohol was a factor.
