04:39 PM PDT on Friday, October 12, 2007
Homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a Portland man.
Just before midnight, central precinct officers found the body of 25-year-old Michael Christopher Mason at a Legacy Hospital hospice center at 6171 SW Capitol Highway. Sgt. Brian Schmautz said it appears the Mason was shot at a strip mall nearby and then moved to the hospice, where he was prounced dead.
He died of a gunshot wound, the autopsy showed.
Schmautz said Mason's body was left at the hospice facility by a white male in his mid to late 20's driving a white colored Ford Focus who identified himself as "Jason."
Detectives believe Mason was shot in the parking lot of the Wild Oats grocery store, located at 6400 SW Capitol Highway.
