The family of a Portland man who suffered a severe brain injury hopes someone can help answer questions about whether he was assaulted, and if so, by whom.

Police suspect Joshua Allen McGillic was hit on the head during an assault outside a strip club on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard.

The incident occurred last month on Friday, September 14. Just after 8 p.m., officers were called to the Blush Lounge on a report of an unconscious man.

When police arrived, paramedics were already assisting 34-year-old McGillic. He appeared to be extremely intoxicated and had suffered a head injury. Officers initially believed McGillic fell and hit his head because he was drunk.

McGillic was transported to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital for evaluation; doctors determined he had a severe brain injury.

“Further analysis at OHSU caused medical personnel to believe the injury may not have been accidental,” said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.

Detectives have contacted everyone they have been able to identify as having been inside or near the lounge at the time police were called to the scene. However, they believe there may be other witnesses who have not come forward.

With medical attention, McGillic regained consciousness, but has not been able to assist detectives with the investigation. He can barely recognize members of his own family, relatives say.

Anyone who may have been in or around the area of the Blush Lounge in the 5100 block of Southeast McGloughlin on the evening of September 14 is asked to call (503) 823-0416.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony, and callers may remain anonymous.
