One dead in Monday morning crash

BEAVERTON -- A person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Tualatin Valley Highway early Monday morning, police said.

The crash happened around 6 a.m., when the driver of a Chevy Suburban ran a red light and slammed head-on into the side of a Nissan pickup truck, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck, Steven Richard Armony died at the scene. Police said he had the right-of-way and was going through the intersection of TV Highway and Murray with a green light when he was hit.

The SUV driver, identified as Narcisco Trejo Castro, 38, was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Castro was not cited Monday morning but police said the investigation was not yet complete and charges could be pending.

Police closed the intersection in all directions so they could reconstruct the crash scene as part of the investigation, if needed. Motorist were advised to take alternative routes to avoid the area as it would remain closed several hours.

One detour was set up at Farmington Road to get motorists around the crash and on to their final destination.
