Aspiring cop killed in motorcycle crash in N. Portland
09:02 AM PDT on Wednesday, October 1, 2008
PORTLAND -- A motorcyclist who witnesses said was doing stunts in North Portland lost control, crashed and died late Monday night, police said.
The crash happened just after 11 p.m., near the intersection of North Willis Blvd and North Wabash. Police said Eric Martel Webb, 24, was wearing a helmet but he died of massive head and neck injuries.
"Webb and several friends were riding their motorcycles in the area of the 3400 block of North Willis when according to witnesses, Webb performed some stunt maneuver on the motorcycle when he lost control and was ejected off the bike," said Cathe Kent with the Portland Police Bureau.
Webb was about to be hired as a Portland police officer, according to Kent, and was just in the process of a background check for the department.
Officers said Webb could not be saved when they got to the scene.
No one else was involved in the collision and speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, Kent said.
