A teenaged boy saved his friend and mother after an armed man took them hostage during a sleepover in Scio, police said.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home northeast of Scio early Sunday morning after two boys reported they had been kidnapped.

Officers said that the 13-year-old resident of the home called police and said that 47-year-old Ronald Alan Williams of Marion had entered the home around midnight and tied him and another boy up with duct tape.

The teen told police he and his friend were having a sleep over and that the mother and resident of the home, 47-year-old Peggy Mack was a former girlfriend of Williams.

The boy’s mom returned home around 2 a.m. and convinced Williams to release the boys.

After her son and his friend were freed, Mack was able to give her son a cell phone and he called 911 for help.

When officers arrived at the home, located at 39884 Cole School Road, Williams, Mack and the two boys were outside of the residence.

Williams then ran back inside the home and reappeared holding a shotgun to his head.

Officers said Williams would not communicate with them and began to scream obscenities while continuing to hold the weapon.

Deputies said Williams eventually shot himself in the head and died at the scene.

Neither Mack nor the two boys were injured.

Williams was reported to have outstanding warrants from Linn, Jackson, and Deschutes Counties for coercion, assault, DUII, and various other charges.
