One of the nation's largest white supremacy groups is descending on Portland. The Hammerskin Nation is planning to hold it's annual Hammerfest music festival somewhere in Portland October 5-7.
The event comes in conjunction with the Hammerskin Nation's 20th anniversary. So far the Hammerskin Nation has not announced where their event will be held.
Newschannel 8 has learned the Portland Police Bureau is preparing an action plan for the Hammerskins' arrival. Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Schmautz would not reveal the details of that plan. He says the Police Bureau is focused on making sure no laws are broken while the Hammerskin members are in town.
Randy Blazak of the Coalition Against Hate Crimes says he's concerned Hammerskin members will lash out against those they perceive as targets.
In preparation for the Hammerskin Nation's arrival, the Ad-Hoc Committee Against Racism and Fascism has planned two events this Saturday. Beginning at 3pm inside room 236 of Portland State's Smith Memorial Center, the committee will host an Anti-Fascist Awareness event. At 8pm inside The Recyclery (1417 Se 9th) musicians of differing races and cultures will come together to promote anti-racism through music.
