Milwaukie motorcyclist killed after colliding with cow
10:34 AM PDT on Tuesday, September 25, 2007
A Milwaukie man was killed and his wife injured Monday night after their motorcycle collided with a cow on Highway 7, about 35 miles southwest of Baker City.
The cow was also killed in the crash. The area is designated as open range for cattle.
Both Leigh Spurlock, 53, and his wife, Donna, 48, were ejected from the motorcycle when they hit the large cow.
A passing emergency room doctor from La Grande stopped and rendered aid to both people while waiting for an ambulance, but Leigh could not be saved, police said.
Donna was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Authorities said her injuries were not life-threatening.
Both Donna and Leigh were wearing motorcycle helmets, police said.
