State park rescue

CANBY, Ore. -- A 24-year-old West Linn man had to be rescued after he slipped and fell down a 50 foot cliff in Canby Wednesday night.

Detective Jim Strovink with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said Nathan Stewart called 911 around 5:00 p.m. from the bottom of the cliff at Molalla State Park.

The 24-year-old told dispatchers he wasn’t exactly sure where he was. Todd Gary with Canby Fire said 911 operators stayed on the line with Stewart until rescue crews reached him.

A Clackamas Fire Heavy Rescue rope team was called in to hoist the man up.

They eventually managed to get him back up the cliff.

Gary said a Lifeflight helicopter was waiting nearby and flew the man to Oregon Health and Science University where he was entered into the trauma system.

Strovink said Stewart was complaining of pain in his hip, rib cage and knee.

Canby Fire warned that recent rains have made trails in the area extremely slick.
