KNAPPA, Ore. -- Police arrested two teens suspected of a vandalism attack that broke dozens of windows at Knappa High School.

KGW report on arrests

Vandals swinging axes or baseball bats broke more than 100 windows at Knappa High School last week and also wrote profanity on the exterior walls of the school.

Clatsop County detectives arrested 18-year-old Timothy Ryan Paul and a 16-year-old student. They were charged with criminal mischief.

This is one of the broken windows in the high school.

The community fought back with brooms, vacuums and cleaning supplies. And within a couple days, all the shattered debris was gone.

The Knappa district along the Columbia River in Clatsop County has only two schools-- the high school and the adjacent elementary school.

Superintendent Rick Pass closed the elementary school, too, so the pupils would not be exposed to the profanity and obscene gestures in the graffiti the vandals left. It also included a bomb threat.
