Suspected drunk driver hits 'don't drink and drive' sign in Aloha

12:17 PM PDT on Monday, September 22, 2008

Associated Press

ALOHA, Ore. (AP) -- Authorities say parts of the Aloha area lost power Sunday after a traffic accident.

An officer shows the sign that was hit.

Authorities say 45-year-old Maura Steele of Portland was on Tualatin Valley Highway when her vehicle hit a "don't drink and drive" sign and then a power pole.

She was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving.

The impact sheared the pole at the base, and power lines fell onto the highway.

The Washington County sheriff's office says the road was closed for several hours while electric crews replaced the pole and restored power.

Steele was not injured.
