Here's a look at the timeline of key events in the Ward Weaver murder case:

Aug. 2001: 3 adults tell child welfare workers that Ashley Pond reported being molested by Weaver.

Jan. 9, 2002: Ashley Pond disappears in Oregon City while en route to school.

Jan. 10, 2002: Police first interview Ward Weaver.

Mar. 8, 2002: Ashley's friend, Miranda Gaddis, also disappears on the way to school.

Aug. 13, 2002: Ward Weaver is arrested on unrelated charges involving rape.

Aug. 24, 2002: Remains of Miranda Gaddis are found by police on Weaver's property.

Aug 25, 2002: Remains of Ashley Pond are found in Weaver's backyard.

Oct. 4, 2002: Weaver is indicted by a Clackamas County grand jury on murder charges.

March 2003: Weaver's court-appointed lawyer asks to be removed from the case. The request is granted.

July 20, 2003: The state disciplines two caseworkers for their handling of the initial Ashley Pond complaints.

Nov. 10, 2003: Weaver's new lawyers, Peter Fahy and Michael Barker, also ask to leave but are refused.

March 2004: Weaver's lawyers seek a suspension of proceedings, claiming Weaver is mentally unfit.

April 2004: A judge finds Weaver unfit for trial, sends him to the Ore. State Hospital for treatment.

August 25, 2004: Weaver is now declared fit to stand trial for the two murders.

Sept. 15, 2004 -- A defense motion to move the trial outside Clackamas County is denied.

Sept. 22, 2004: Weaver pleads guilty to murders in exchange for life sentence, avoids death penalty.
