OREGON CITY -- Police have identified the cyclist who they said was killed after a driver struck him on his bicycle last Monday night and then fled the scene.

Gareth Allan Parker, 59, of southwest Portland was hit just after 7 p.m. near milepost 15. He died about four hours later at Oregon Health and Science University, police said.

Someone living near the crash scene found Parker on the roadway and a pair of motorcyclists also stopped to help him before paramedics arrived and trasported him to the hospital.

Evidence collected at the scene pointed to a red vehicle and police sent out requests through the media for anyone with information that may help in the case to call them.

Police seized Christopher Amick's truck as evidence.

"A tip was forwarded to investigators after an Oregon City resident spotted a red 1996 Nissan pickup with right front and windshield damage parked on South Finnegans Way on the south end of Oregon City," said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police. "This location was about three miles from the crash scene."

Hastings said investigators linked the truck to Christopher Lee Amick, 35, of Vancouver, Wash. Amick was arrested in Portland and charged with manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. He is now lodged in the Clackamas County Jail.

Police are still trying to track down Parker's relatives to let them know what happened.
