First case of West Nile virus discovered in Yamhill County

Health officials confirmed the first case of West Nile virus in Yamhill County Tuesday night.

They said a jay found dead near Sheridan tested positive for the disease.
Officials urged horse owners to have their animals vaccinated because West Nile is especially deadly to horses.
Health officials also encouraged residents to avoid mosquitoes and eliminate standing water and other breeding areas around their homes.
