Three fishermen washed ashore alive on a Newport beach after their boat capsized.
According to Oregon State Police Trooper Heather Van Meter, the men were using GPS trying to find their way back to Newport in thick fog and heavy surf and did not realize how close to shore reefs they were.
A large wave capsized the boat, trapping the three underneath. The initial report police received was of two men hanging onto a capsized boat.
When rescuers arrived, passersby were attending to the trio who had washed up on the beach, along with the boat.
Alfred Wetland, 51, Maurice A. Dorsey, 50 and Michael J. Henry, 47, were taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital, treated for hypothermia, cuts and bruises and released.
