Chinese film crew tries to bring shoppers to Portland
07:11 AM PDT on Thursday, August 28, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A Chinese film crew is in Portland shooting a segment local sponsors hope will bring big spenders from China for shopping.
The episode will air this fall hoping to lure Chinese from seven wealthy provinces newly cleared for touring in the United States. The change in China's travel restriction went into effect this spring.
A weak dollar has made shopping in the United States attractive for residents of many foreign countries. Scott Krugman, spokesman for the National Retail Federation, says several major cities have launched marketing campaigns to draw international shoppers.
