Tim Mastne tested out bikes this morning at River City Bicycles in Southeast Portland.

A bike is his only form of transportation.

He relied on his bike to get him to his job as a maintenance worker at McDonald's. The 42-year-old is still recovering from his wounds when he was hit nearly two weeks ago when a driver struck Mastne and knocked him off his bike.

Police say the driver, Johnny Eschweiler, deliberately hit a different bicyclist who the driver claimed had kicked his car. The cyclist denies kicking the car. Police say Eschweiler then struck Mastne from behind.

On Tuesday, Eschweiler pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted assault in the first degree and two counts of assault in the second degree.

Those charges are Measure 11 offenses.

Mastne says it would take him months to save up for a new bike. But now he has one. Two of our viewers saw our report were so moved they stepped forward to buy Mastne a new bike.

The Seattle couple who paid for the bike have asked to remain annoynmous.

"Oh, I appreciate it! They're in my heart now. I wish there were more people like that. They passed it on to me and I'll pass it onto someone else if I get a chance," said Mastne.

Mastne's road rash has nearly healed. His swollen legs forced him to walk with a limp.
