Search and rescue crews planned to spend a second night searching the Eagle Creek Wilderness area in Baker County for a missing 76-year-old woman from Sandy.

Anderson family

Baker County Undersheriff Warren Thompson said that 76-year-old Doris Anderson was last seen by her husband Harold on Friday afternoon. The two had planned to go elk hunting when their SUV got stuck on a remote forest service road in Baker county.

The couple tried to hike out but Doris couldn't make the trip and headed back to the SUV to wait for help.

Officials said Harold hiked five to six miles out where he eventually met up with a group of hunters who took him to a hospital in Baker City on Saturday . He was treated for a broken wrist after the tailgate on the couple's SUV fell on him.

The sheriff's department was contacted shortly after and a full-scale search effort was launched. Crews were able to locate the couple's SUV but there was no sign of her.

Officials don't think she ever made it back to the SUV but instead took a wrong turn on the intricate maze of roads that run through the area.

Undersheriff Thompson said there did not appear to be any signs of foul play.

Search crews combed the area from the air and from the ground on Sunday but could not locate the missing woman.

The National Guard planned to launch a rescue helicopter with a thermal imaging camera at first light on Monday morning.
