The family of a woman brought back to life during the Hood to Coast race thanked the community for the outpouring of support as she continued her recovery Tuesday.

Two Oregon State Police troopers running the Hood to Coast marathon saved 68-year-old Kathy Ryan during the race Saturday.

Around 5:40 a.m., Detective Terri Cassebarth and Trooper Dee Rzewnicki Astoria were leaving an area near Mist with their team when they found that Ryan had collapsed on her back in the middle of the road, Lt. Gregg Hastings said.

One trooper began to divert traffic and the other two started CPR on the victim. After about eight minutes, the woman showed signs of life.

An ambulance crew took the woman to the hospital and she was transferred to OHSU. Her condition was not available.

Ryan is a member of the Heart 'N Sole team. Cassebarth and Rzewnicki have been a part of the Twelve Tough Mothers team for the past six years.
