Driver slams into trees on Hwy 30 after passing cyclist

ASTORIA, Ore. -- A 65-year-old driver was hurt in a crash Tuesday after trying to avoid a cyclist then hitting a tree on Highway 30.
Oregon State Police said John Markham, of Arch Cape, was passing the cyclist around noon when his car continued across the other lanes and slid into a gravel shoulder.

Troopers said when he tried to steer out of the area he lost control and ran into the trees.
Markham was eventually airlifted to a Portland hospital where he was listed in serious condition.
