Portland woman accused in deadly stabbing of alleged pimp
07:15 AM PDT on Tuesday, August 19, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A Portland woman has been charged with fatally stabbing a man she claims was trying to get her to work as a prostitute.
Police say 19-year-old Donyel Helen Hormats stabbed 21-year-old Christopher Darrell Richardson once in the chest shortly after 8 p.m. Friday. He died later that night at a hospital.
Hormats told authorities she was carrying a knife for protection because she had been assaulted the previous night.
She was arraigned on a murder charge Monday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
The prostitution-related homicide came as Portland police are working to develop new strategies to respond to street-level prostitution, which has drawn increasing complaints from residents along 82nd Avenue in northeast Portland.
