Friends and family gathered Monday to remember a 16-year-old Vancouver teen who died skateboarding on Sunday.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon at NE 29th Avenue and NE 139th Street.

Clark County Sheriff’s Sergeant Tim Beiber said 16-year-old Joseph Madison was holding on to the driver's side rear window while being towed by a vehicle.  When the vehicle hit a dip in the road, Madison lost his grip, fell and hit his head on the pavement. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday, students gathered near the site to put up a memorial to Madison.

Police said neither drugs or alcohol appeared to be a factor in the accident.

There were two other male teen passengers in the car at the time of the accident.

The case will be turned over to the prosecutor’s office to determine if any charges will be filed.
