Fake security guards fool Tigard bankers & steal night deposits
10:41 AM PDT on Tuesday, August 19, 2008
TIGARD, Ore. -- A pair of fake security guards were suspected of making off with night deposits from at least two business employees over the weekend.
It happened at the Wells Fargo branch across from Washington Square Mall around Friday around 10 p.m.
Tigard police detectives said two white men in the 30s or early 40s were decked out in blue uniforms, with guns, badges and IDs while they staked themselves out by the night deposit box.
Witnesses said there was also a sign above the deposit door that read “out of service,” and the two said they were collecting deposits for the bank.
Two victims said they gave the money over to the men who collected it in a black box. They told police the men “looked official.”
But one business called the bank the next day and found out what happened. Wells Fargo the drop box was not out of order, and that they would never have such a procedure in order to make night deposits.
Anyone with information in the case was asked to call police.
