Average state income tax increases under a proposed three-year surtax
being considered by the Oregon Senate; takes into account less federal
tax would be owed because of a higher deduction for state taxes:
SINGLE FILERS
Income Under $10,000, no increase
$20,000 to $30,000, annual tax increase $30
$30,000 to $40,000, $76
$40,000 to $50,000, $105
$50,000 to $70,000, $147
$70,000 to $100,000, $250
$100,000 to $200,000, $492
Average for all single filer returns: $58 tax increase
JOINT RETURNS
Under $20,000, no tax increase
$20,000 to $30,000, $7 tax increase
$30,000 to $40,000, $13
$40,000 to $50,000, $36
$50,000 to $70,000, $88
$70,000 to $100,000, $177
$100,000 to $200,000, $370
Average for all joint returns: $155 tax increase
