Lightning on Oregon's east side as clouds move through Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Some clouds and showers moved their way through early August skies in Oregon Friday, but the sun was expected to return to the Willamette Valley for the most part.

According to KGW Meteorologist Dave Salesky, the precipitation was expected to hug the eastern side of the Cascades moving up from the south. By afternoon, Portland was expected to see sun and temps in the low 80s.

Some showers were predicted for Saturday with a bit cooler temps in the 70s, with sun returning Sunday.

Officials say lightning started around 70 small fires in Eastern Oregon on Thursday. A Red flag warning was declared for most of the state east of the Cascades.

The Oregon Department of Forestry says most covered less than an acre and were quickly contained.

The largest blaze was the 100-acre Coyote Canyon fire east of Pilot Rock. It has been fully contained.
