Preliminary investigation indicates that at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, a Toyota was eastbound on Hwy 26 near milepost 22 in the right lane. For an unknown reason, the Toyota drifted across the eastbound centerline and clipped the right front side of an eastbound 1984 Mercedes sedan. After impact, the Toyota rotated broadside across the center paved median and into the westbound lanes. The Toyota was struck in the passenger side by the front of a westbound Ford Explorer. Impact was in the left westbound lane.

The Toyota's driver, Carmen Delores Simancas, age 35 from Boring, was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints.

The Ford Explorer had four occupants who reportedly received non-life threatening injuries. The driver, Moira K. Bono, age 45, and passsenger Arianna Kettley, age 9, were taken to Oregon Health Sciences University. The driver's daughter Kelly C. Bono, age 9 and Brenna Weller, age 8, were taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. They were reportedly returning from a Girl Scout event.

The Mercedes driver, Levi A. Ruiz, age 31, from Sandy, was not injured and his vehicle received very minor damage.

Oregon State Police troopers, assisted by the Clackamas County interagency crash investigation team, planned to continue the investigation. ODOT, Boring Fire Department, and Clackamas County Medical Examiner assisted at the scene.

All lanes were closed with detour in place until 6:15 p.m. when one eastbound lane was reopened.
