Descriptions of victims, survivors of Gearhart tragedy

In the wake of a plane crash and house fire that killed five people in Gearhart, Ore. on Monday, friends of the victims and survivors shared their grief and memories.
Comments from viewers have poured in, with people who knew the victims and the survivors sharing stories and prayers.
The following is a list of who is who, as well as reaction from friends:
Jason Ketchson – Plane pilot who died in the crash. He was 36 years old and lived in Cannon Beach.
Frank Toohey – Plane passenger who died in crash. He was 58. He lived in Warrenton. Neighbors described him as a successful businessman involved in time-share sales who leaves behind a family and many friends.

“Frank had a wisdom and grace about him. Over the years I felt that life was so much better by having known Frank….He always brightened up the room and made people smile…Frank was the funniest, most happy, luckiest guy I ever met. He always saw the good in the day and he never let me down. I could always count on Frank Toohey,” RJ McHatton wrote.
Sam Masoudi – Died in the house. He was 12 years old and a 7th grader at St. Anne’s Episcopal School in Denver, CO.
Grace Masoudi —Died in the house. She was 8 and a 3rd grader at St. Anne’s Episcopal School in Denver, CO.
All three children who died were grandchildren of Lee Johnson, a former legislator and judge who also was a two-term attorney general more than three decades ago.
Dr. Fred Masoudi – Was not at the scene of the crash. He’s a cardiologist at Denver Health and the father of Sam and Grace.
In a statement from St. Anne’s Episcopal School, Headmaster Alan Smiley said the deaths of Grace and Sam Masoudi are an incredible loss for the Masoudi-Johnson families. He said Sam and Grace are prime examples of all that is beautiful and wonderful in children.
One viewer wrote: “The Masoudi's are an incredibly respected and beloved family in the Denver community. Their children are most precious. We are feeling so much pain for all involved. Our heartfelt prayers are with all the families. May the Masoudis know that hundreds and hundreds of people in the St. Anne's community are with them in thought and prayer.”
Dr. Marie Johnson – Was not at scene of the crash. Married to Dr. Fred Masoudi and mother of Sam and Grace. Amy Smith, a spokeswoman for Kaiser Permanente in Colorado, said Johnson is a physician for Colorado Permanente Medical Group, where she works in the continuing care department.
“We tried to reach out to Dr. Johnson and offer support. Physicians want to express their deepest sympathies to the families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Johnson said.

Ruth Reimann
Ruth Reimann – Survived the plane crash into the house. Currently being treated at the Legacy Emanuel Hospital burn center. She’s employed as a midwife at a Kaiser Vancouver facility.
The family lives in southwest Portland and the two girls attended Ainsworth Elementary School. According to Ainsworth Elementary PTA President Lee Ruminer, 47-year-old Ruth Reimann was very active in the school; she volunteered all the time and was known as someone the PTA could always count on.
The family was described as intimately involved in its community. Friends and staff at Ainsworth said they know the Reimann girls very well and described them as sweet, loving kids always willing to lend a hand.
“They’re very outgoing girls…spoke every day, you know were happy to be at school, every time I saw them, they were just happy to be here,” said Ainsworth staff member Tyrone Johnson.
Julia Reimann – Died in the house. Cousin to the Masoudi children. She was going to be a 5th grader at Ainsworth this fall.

Sarah Reimann – Survived the plane crash into the house. Currently being treated at the Legacy Emanuel Hospital burn center. Cousin to the Masoudi children. She’s 11 years old and will be a 6th grader at Ainsworth this fall.
Christopher Reimann – Survived the plane crash into the house. Currently being treated at the Legacy Emanuel Hospital burn center. Cousin to the Masoudi children. He’s 13 and will be an 8th grader at Catlin Gabel this fall, according to family friend Dorta Morse. Her son is friends with Christopher.
Morse described the Reimanns as a wonderful, beautiful family.
“They were all very good kids,” Ruminer said.
One kgw.com viewer wrote: “I know the Beaverton family from high school. I know they may not read this, but I just want God to hold them up at this time, and pray that Mr. Reimann's remaining family members can pull through their injuries.”
