They said Amanda Kaye Nickel, 25, of Roseburg was driving south on Interstate 5 with her daughter, Maykla Lynn Wease, 5, and her boyfriend, Corey William Zwiefelhofer, 25, also of Roseburg, Monday evening when their car ran out of gas.
They were stuck in the slow lane on the bridge, where there is only a narrow shoulder, so Nickel and Zwiefelhofer got out to push, leaving the child seat-belted inside.
They were struck by another southbound vehicle driven by Cory Bowman, 28, of Canyonville. Nickel died at the scene, and Maykla was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center, police said.
Zwiefelhofer was listed in fair condition Tuesday.
Bowman was not injured and remained on the scene to assist police.
