Funds added to bill to remove port near Arlington
09:39 AM PDT on Sunday, July 27, 2008
PENDLETON, Ore. - A spokesman for Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden says $3.2 million has been added to a Senate appropriations bill for the removal of the beleaguered Willow Creek port near Arlington.
Spokesman Tom Towslee said he does not know when the Senate will vote.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers revoked Gilliam county's permit after it spent $2.3 million on the project, which was to help a local landfill accept trash barges.
Corps officials found the port would be atop an Indian treaty fishing site. Gilliam county and the Port of Arlington have appealed but will have to remove the port if the decision stands.
