Three-alarm fire torches NE insulation warehouse
12:59 PM PDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- A “big pile of rubbish” is all that was left from a 3-alarm warehouse fire in Northeast Portland.
The fire started just before 10 a.m., at a warehouse for Buckaroo Thermoseal a roofing and insulation contractor. A towering black plume of smoke could be seen for miles until firefighters got the blaze under control 80 minutes later.

Lt. Allen Oswalt of the Portland Fire Bureau said no one was hurt in the fire, and that it was too early to determine a cause or provide a damage estimate. He said investigators will remain on the scene for the rest of the day.
Buckaroo Thermoseal shared the building with A & B Sheetmetal. Oswalt said there was a firewall between the two warehouses and that firefighters were able to prevent the flames from one side to the other. He said the damage to the sheetmetal warehouse was minimal, mostly smoke and water damage.
Meanwhile, some of the nearby residents weren’t taking any chances. Some were seen hosing down their rooftops to make sure embers from the fire didn’t spread to their homes.
Another concern according to Oswalt, was a close by 40 foot tall pile of wooden pallets waiting to be recycled. But they didn’t catch fire either.
As many as 15 engines, 5 trucks and 90 firefighters responded.
