Police were called to a Salem apartment early Sunday morning after a man stabbed a woman, turned the knife on himself and then barricaded them both inside the home.

Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s office responded to the apartment, located in the 3900 block of Iberis Street N.E. just before 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

When officers attempted to make contact with the injured man and woman, the man barricaded both of them inside a bedroom, held the female hostage and refused to come out, investigators said.

After attempting to negotiate with the man, police forced their way into the bedroom and took 28-year-old Simon Orozco Garcia into custody.

Both Garcia and his female victim were transported to Salem Memorial Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
