Protesters picket at Nike over Vick sponsorship
02:39 PM PDT on Friday, July 20, 2007
Members of the Humane Society of the United States and other humane organizations gathered at Nike's Beaverton campus Friday afternoon to urge Nike to end any affiliation with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

Vick was indicted Thursday on Federal dogfighting charges.
Following the announcement of the charges against Vick, Nike announced it had suspended release of the "Zoom Vick V" shoe.
The HSUS says Nike has not gone far enough, and says Nike should also drop its entire line of Michael Vick apparel and footwear.
"We respect the right of people to express their views on this issue and reiterate our strong opposition to animal cruelty and dog fighting," said Bob Applegate, Nike spokesman.
After the indictment was announced, Nike Inc. said the company "is concerned by the serious and highly disturbing allegations made against Michael Vick, and we consider any cruelty to animals inhumane and abhorrent. We do believe that Michael Vick should be afforded the same due process as any citizen; therefore, we have not terminated our relationship."
