LAKEVIEW, Ore. -- Fire officials say nearly 1,600 lightning strikes have
hit south-central Oregon in the last 24 hours.
The Lakeview Interagency Fire Center reported 1,585 lightning strikes in
the area since 1 p.m. on Monday.
They started four new fires in the Fremont and Winema National Forests
-- all one-tenth of an acre in size.
All of those fires have now been contained. But a helicopter and an
airplane will continue to patrol the area.
