SALEM, Ore. -- After two patient escapes in the past week, the Oregon State Hospital has restricted all forensic patient trips and passes outside the secure perimeter of the psychiatric facility in Salem.

Officials said Friday the only exceptions will be made for medical appointments and scheduled visits to patient transition sites.

Also effective immediately, officials will review all policies and risk review procedures for the 470 patients in the hospital's forensic program.

The strict measure comes as state officials are gearing up to build a new state hospital to replace the 125-year-old facility that was featured in the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
