The fire broke out around 2:45p on Juniper Canyon Road in south Prineville when a motor home towing a boat, overheated and started the grass fire.
The fire scorched about 25 acres of land but concerned authorities because of it's close proximity to nearby homes.
Lisa Clark with the Central Oregon Interagency Fire Center said that some of the area residents were voluntarily evacuating but no official evacuation order had been issued.
The affected subdivision is made up of homes that sit on lots between two and five acres in size and many residents own livestock.
The Red Cross opened a shelter for the evacuees at the Calvary Baptist Church in Prineville and the Crook County Fairgrounds was accepting the evacuated animals.
Juniper Canyon Road was closed to traffic while fire crews worked to contain the blaze.
