WILLAMINA, Ore. -- Deputies on Saturday arrested two people suspected of beating a man during a home invasion robbery in Willamina.

According to Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree, 40-year-old John William Voigt was discovered found beaten and incoherent in his home after wo people reportedly broke into the home on NW First Street at about 8 a.m. Thursday. His Toyota pickup was reported stolen and it was suspected that suspects 33-year-old Shay Charley and 19-year-old Marlin Dwain 'Casey' Tolbert took off in the truck after the crime, police said.

It was learned the two may have headed for the Coast. On Saturday, a Toledo Police officer followed what he thought was the pickup pull into a neighborhood home, Yamhill Sheriff Jack Crabtree said.

He watched the suspects cover the pickup with a tarp and got back into the vehicle, then confirmed the plate number and called Yamhill County investigtors.

A team of police from several agencies soon arrived and were able to safely arrest Charley and Tolbert.

“We took this case from a true ‘Who done it?’ to a successful apprehension within 48 hours of the crime,” Crabtree said. “This is a true testament to the importance of communication and commitment on the part of the participating agencies.”

They were charged with first degree assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, robbery and theft.
