Scene of the crash and backed-up traffic on Hwy. 26.
Hillsboro Police Department spokesman Mike Rouches said a car traveling eastbound on Hwy 26 crossed over the centerline and slammed into an oncoming vehicle just before 6 a.m.
He said a cable barrier could have prevented the crarsh, or at least slowed the car down before it crossed over. However that area, between 185th Avenue and Cornelius Pass, does not have middle barriers.
Everyone was conscious after the crash, but authorities said there may be serious injuries.
The cause of the crash was still under investigation.
There was a major traffi backup on Hwy. 26 after the crash but the roadway was entirely re-opened just after 7 a.m.
