SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- Gov. Ted Kulongoski was "doing well" after undergoing surgery Thursday to alleviate pain in his right shoulder and arm, a spokeswoman for the governor's office said.

"He is out of surgery and is resting in the recovery room. Everything went as planned," Kristina Edmunson said after
Kulongoski underwent the operation at an undisclosed Portland-area hospital.
The surgical procedure near the base of Kulongoski's neck was aimed at giving compressed vertebrae more room, taking pressure off the spinal cord which had caused increasing pain for the governor in recent months.
Kulongoski, who was placed under general anesthesia for the surgery, is due back in his office in the state Capitol on Monday and is expected to make a full recovery from the surgery within six to eight weeks, his office said.
