PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) -- An 8-year-old Port Angeles boy encountered a cougar while playing in the driveway of his home.

The encounter happened Saturday when the animal approached the boy and took a swipe at him. The boy wasn't injured, but there were tears to his shirt.

The cougar ran off into a nearby ravine, but returned to the house later.

State Fish and Wildlife agents used a dog to track the cougar. They fired a shot at the animal and it disappeared into dense brush.
