Two survive kit plane crash near Prineville

PRINEVILLE, Ore. -- It was a close call for two men at a private airport near Prineville Monday night when their kit plane crashed near the airport.
Witnesses told the Crook County Sheriff the plane made two go-around passes before touching down on the third approach. It happened at the Dry Creek Air Park about 8 miles south of Prineville.

They said the plane landed mid-runway and was running out of room when the pilot tried to make a high speed turn on to the taxi way.
Instead, the plane went over the embankment before coming to a stop in some sage brush.
The men are from California and managed to walk away from the accident without any injuries. They’ve been identified as Pilot Bob Lee Mackey of San Jose and Pedro Luis Lopez of Santa Clara.
They were flying a 1988 Lancair kit plane.
