Fire raced through a house in the Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park just before 1 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire in the front entrance, carport and front window. The flames also spread to nearby trees, scorching several fir and cedars up to 60 feet, and the fire was threatening adjacent mobile homes.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes but the home was a total loss, said Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue spokesman Storm Smith. A Dodge pickup parked in the carport was also significantly damaged.

A seven-year-old and a 10-year-old were at home when the fire broke out, Smith said.

They told investigators their mother and grandmother had left to run an errand. The boys noticed flames, escaped the home unharmed and notified a neighbor across the street, who called 9-1-1.

A passerby woke the neighbors in the threatened adjacent home and they escaped unhurt as well, Smith said. That house was not seriously damaged.

Fire investigators were working to determine the fire’s cause and origin.
