03:52 PM PDT on Monday, July 21, 2008
TROUT LAKE, Wash. -- The Cold Springs Fire was 75 percent contained as of Monday as crews made slow, steady progress against the wildfire.
The weather was helping, with cooler temperatures and fewer wind gusts as about 900 firefighters were attacking the wildfire.

The blaze is burning on timber about 7,000 acres in Gifford National Forest and about 1,000 acres of the Yakima Indian Reservation.
Geree Mills of the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center in Portland, Ore. said there is no estimate on the time of full containment of the fire, but the weather on Saturday was good for firefighting -- about 70 degrees with a humidity of about 30 percent, with a wind of 12-18 mph from the southwest.
The bad news for people living in the area is the fire will keep burning until rain puts it out. That could be weeks or even months, officials said.
The Cold Springs Wildfire near Mt. Adams is the biggest fire in the Southern Cascade Range in at least 14 years.
“The fire is in a remote area with many dead trees so as always our highest priority is the safety of the public and firefighters” said Nancy Ryke, Mt.Adams District Ranger.

The fire broke out 10 miles northeast of Trout Lake in Washington's south Cascades. The fire forced the closure of the Cold Springs South Climb trailhead and hikers were evacuated from the area.
